After several years of construction, the renovation of Bahnhofstrasse in Schaffhausen (Switzerland) was completed this summer. Since then, the city’s most important transport hub has been more spacious, safer, and barrier-free. Our newly installed digital departure displays make a significant contribution to enhancing the bus stop situation at the central Bahnhofstrasse hub. Passengers now benefit from real-time data and improved clarity.
Digital passenger displays for improved passenger guidance
As part of the project, we installed four double-sided 46-inch steles with TFT monitors. Thanks to the integrated text-to-speech (TTS) function, visually impaired passengers can also access the current information. The content on the steles is controlled by a modern backend system with layout management, which allows for information on current traffic disruptions (detours or construction sites) and events, in addition to departure times.
Since bus lines depart from ten different stops along Bahnhofstrasse, central information is particularly important. The steles clearly display the next 15 departures and their corresponding stops in real time. This allows not only locals but also visitors to quickly and reliably find their way.
Customer Feedback from Schaffhausen
Marcel Seelhofer, Head of Operations at Verkehrsbetriebe Schaffhausen (vbsh), provides positive feedback:
“The four new departure displays from Funkwerk offer our passengers a complete overview of the next bus departures. They were placed at the entrances to the main hub of our bus network, Bahnhofstrasse, and show the next 15 departures in real time, including the stop number. Not only passengers unfamiliar with the area appreciate this overview, as our bus lines wait for customers at a total of 10 stops along Bahnhofstrasse. In addition to the next departures, the monitors also display information on detours, construction sites, and events. A great added value for public transport users in the region and also a small visual highlight on the newly designed Bahnhofstrasse Schaffhausen.”
A benefit for the region
The project demonstrates how modern passenger information makes public transport more comfortable and attractive. Real-time data, accessibility, and flexible information management offer clear added value and simplify daily life for all passengers.
