Hamburg Hochbahn Project

A short road trip through the Hanseatic city –
with stops at the first installations of our new passenger information system

During our stay in Hamburg for the UITP, we took the opportunity for a very special stopover: We wanted to see how our displays work in their natural environment – live in action, right in the middle of things. So we went on a little tour through the city – from Jungfernstieg to Horner Rennbahn.

First stop: Jungfernstieg – right in the middle of it all

Jungfernstieg is one of Hamburg’s most important transport hubs – where S-Bahn and U-Bahn lines as well as buses intersect in the direct city center location. And it’s right here that our systems make their first big appearance.

Already on the station forecourt, two impressive information steles welcome travelers. The monitors we supplied show real-time departure times, area maps, and line overviews. Above the entrances to the station, our 32-inch displays provide precise information about the next departures. And on the S-Bahn platform, a 65-inch stele provides a comprehensive overview of transfer options and routes.

Next stop: Hamburg Central Station – a giant in transition

Hamburg Central Station is Germany’s busiest railway station. Over half a million people pass through here daily.

On the platforms, our 65-inch display cases are setting new standards: They show the current train composition displays digitally – in real-time, clearly, and paperless. A relief for all those who need to change trains quickly and efficiently.

Last stop: Horner Rennbahn – clear display, clear paths

Our last stop takes us to Horner Rennbahn station. Here too, our TFT departure displays now shape the platform image. They provide orientation and give passengers reliable information about the next connection – even in Hamburg’s outer districts.

Project Overview

The project kicked off in summer 2024: As part of the project “Planning, Delivery and Commissioning of a Dynamic Passenger Information System (DPIS)”, we received a major order from Hamburger Hochbahn AG.

By 2028, we will deliver and install approximately 700 new displays with text-to-speech integration option. The hardware is complemented by our Funkwerk Mobility Platform, which will be used as the new background system and modernizes the entire passenger information system of the Hochbahn.

Conclusion

It’s great to see how our system is modernizing urban transport in Hamburg step by step. We look forward to everything that’s yet to come!
