Central Passenger Information with AURIS

CFL (Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois) is the national railway company of Luxembourg. Over 22 million passengers are transported annually on 628 track kilometers. In response to growing demands from international traffic, centralized operations management, and optimized track utilization, Luxembourg’s state railway opted for the highly automated passenger information solution AURIS from our company.

Our Approach

Central. Automated. Internationally Applicable.
Since the project start in 2016 on the pilot route from Dippach-Reckange to Belval-Université, AURIS has been successively introduced at all 68 stations. We continuously modernize and expand the system with additional functionalities to optimize CFL’s operational processes. The central control of passenger information is fully automated from the operations control center in Luxembourg.

System components overview

  • Close integration with the train dispatching system ARAMIS
Automatic adoption of timetables and real-time data, intelligent derivation of operational deviations such as train exchanges, track changes, or replacement services
  • Automated voice announcements with Cura®
Text-to-Speech for flexible voice output without maintenance effort, including live announcements via LTE or GSM-R over mobile devices
  • Visual information systems
TFT monitors at all stations, complemented by barrier-free information steles with read-aloud function
  • Sensor-based further development
Installation of sensors for person detection and recording of train phases (approach, stop, departure) for even more precise connection information

Innovation with foresight

For even more precise connection information, Funkwerk Sensor Modules were installed at all stations, allowing targeted use of train destination displays by detecting people on the platforms. These recognize individual train phases (approach, entry, train stop, and departure), which significantly improved the quality of passenger information and especially the timing of announcements (connection announcements).

Success record

  • Central control of all 70 stations by the BFZ Luxembourg
  • Fully automated information chain based on the dispatching system ARAMIS
  • Use of Cura® public address system and Text-to-Speech for maximum flexibility
  • Barrier-free visualization through TFT displays and info steles
  • Continuous modernization through sensor-based detection and intelligent forecasts, over 170 sensors successfully in operation
