MVG Munich

City-wide passenger information with over 500 TFT displays

The Munich Transport Company (MVG), a subsidiary of Stadtwerke München (SWM), operates a modern, comprehensive information system for subway traffic. We supplied the central control system for over 500 TFT displays on platforms and in mezzanine levels – including connection to the control system, live data updates, and CI-compliant graphic representation.

Our Approach

City-wide. Automated. Visually clear.
The project’s goal was to provide reliable and user-centered passenger information throughout the entire city area as part of Munich’s Smart City initiative. Our delivered scalable system receives train data directly from the train control system and combines functional requirements with design precision.

System components overview

  • Central control of more than 500 displays
Direction-specific passenger information on platforms and in mezzanine levels, including differentiated line and destination display
  • Direct connection to the control system
Automatic display of real-time data, special texts, and operational information via standardized interfaces
  • CI-compliant graphic representation
Fully graphic output in line colors with symbols and pictograms for intuitive orientation
  • Fail-safe system architecture
Three independent control areas with redundant server structure and automatic switching in case of malfunction
  • Integrated incident management
Early error detection, feedback to the control center, and central remote control of individual components

Innovation with foresight

In addition to the technical implementation, the system also meets high design requirements. The display contents are consistently adapted to MVG’s corporate design and support barrier-free, clearly structured communication. The integrated information management system (IMS) enables flexible and targeted content delivery – tailored to the line, time, and situation.

Success record

  • City-wide control of over 500 TFT displays
  • Automated passenger information based on the live control system
  • Redundant, fail-safe system architecture
  • Quick response to disruptions through central reporting system
  • CI-compliant, visually differentiated display at all subway stations
