Multimodal passenger information in alpine cross-border traffic

Transports de Martigny et Régions (TMR) operates a diverse transport network in Wallis with trains, buses, and cable cars – including the Mont-Blanc Express across the national border to France. To provide all travelers with a reliable information service, we have developed a passenger information system for TMR that can be continuously expanded – most recently with a control center for bus traffic.

.

Our Approach

A central platform for all modes of transport
Our solution receives real-time data directly from the ILTIS interlocking system and automatically generates forecasts for travel times, track changes, and arrivals. Complemented by powerful timetable management, periodic timetables and long-term planning can be maintained centrally. A direct connection to the SBB customer system CUS enables cross-modal information, even for long-distance, funicular, and bus connections.

System components overview

  • Central control for rail & bus
Complete network view with graphical interface, real-time data, and CMS integration
  • Automated passenger information
Forecast-controlled display and announcement logic, across all modes of transport
  • Multilingual IP public address system
Text-to-speech output in multiple languages, synchronized with visual system
  • Weather-resistant hardware
Web-enabled TFT displays in TMR design – optimized for alpine conditions
  • Bus control center with GPS connection
Automatic travel time forecasts through continuous GPS data transmission via LTE

Innovation with foresight

The solution combines high automation with centralized control. Whether on the Mont Blanc Express, a regional bus, or a cable car – all passengers receive clear, up-to-date information. An intuitive dashboard also allows staff to flexibly control additional content such as weather or network updates.

Success record

  • Passenger information for rail, bus, and cable car from a single system
  • Real-time control of all stations and lines via central control center
  • Integration of national data sources such as ILTIS and CUS
  • Barrier-free, multilingual communication – also for cross-border traffic
