Application Layer

The application layer is used to connect all relevant mobility applications. This allows users to find all important information within one uniform interface.

Platform Service Layer

The platform service layer is a data collector, data refiner and data distributor in one tidy package. It uses external services and interfaces to read in and emit data through various channels.

The basic architecture

The architecture of the Funkwerk Mobility Platform is shaped by two consecutive layers that work in tandem: the application layer, which displays all applications in a uniform user interface; and a platform service layer, which is the technical core that collects, processes and distributes data in the background. 

Roles of the Application Layer

The application layer combines classic applications, such as passenger information and sound systems, with new and innovative applications, such as predictive maintenance and intuitive journey planner. Thanks to the open interfaces and APIs, the applications can communicate with one another and exchange data. If the passenger information system reports a platform changethis information will be automatically updated in the journey planner.

The platform service layer acts as a symbolic data hub: The application layer continuously exchanges data with the platform service layer and forwards processed information to each application. It doesn’t matter how the data is read into the platform service layer, as it is compatible with all major interfaces, such as VDV, SIRI, GPS data, SCADA, OPC and even ERP systems. The platform service layer is also where Funkwerk provides shared services, such as user and configuration management.

The software architecture of the platform service layer will help your company meet its IT security requirements by ensuring the consistent technical implementation of the “privacy-by-design” and “security-by-design” directives.
